After the initial discovery of the SUV and subsequent discovery of Ms. Korpela on June 29, 2025, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office continued searching for the other missing person, Daniel Latterell.
On the evening of July 6, 2025, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office informed the Cloquet Police Department that their drone had found an item of interest approximately 1,100 feet from the SUV in a wet, dense brush area.
On July 7, CPD staff assisted the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office in checking the location. Upon arrival, officers located a body, believed to be 64-year-old Daniel Joseph Latterell.
On June 29, 2025, Aitkin County deputies found Latterell's vehicle in a remote farm and wooded area about two miles north of Aitkin. Nearby, investigators recovered a deceased person. The body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for identification, where the person's identity was confirmed.
On June 30, 2025, Cloquet Police Department personnel assisted search teams in the area as efforts to locate Mr. Latterell continued. Ground search crews, K-9 units, and drones were deployed to the scene. During the search, clothing belonging to Mr. Latterell was discovered. However, he has not yet been found, and search efforts remain ongoing.
Currently, the Cloquet Police Department and the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office do not suspect foul play in the incident. The investigation is ongoing with both agencies.
