Following extensive investigations and interviews conducted by APD homicide detectives, Lawrence Scott Johnston, a 68-year-old male, has been arrested and charged with murder. The arrest comes as a result of diligent efforts by the investigative team to gather evidence related to the case.
Mr. Johnston was booked into the Randall County Detention Center. This investigation is ongoing.

**Homicide Investigation Underway Following Shooting Incident**
At approximately 8:20 AM on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Janet Dr. in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, Christopher Scott Copeland, a 54-year-old male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Amarillo Medical Services (AMS) and the Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) promptly arrived on the scene and attempted life-saving measures; however, despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased.
The shooter was swiftly taken into custody and is currently being held for questioning as part of the ongoing homicide investigation. Authorities have confirmed that this was an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the community.
The Amarillo Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
