Location: Ojai, CA
Date & Time: 07/08/2025
Unit(s) Responsible: Ojai Patrol Station

Narrative:
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the assignment of Deputy Eric Burnett as the new Motorcycle Officer serving the City of Ojai. This addition reinforces the department’s ongoing mission to improve traffic safety, reduce violations, and strengthen community ties throughout the Ojai Valley.

Deputy Burnett brings over 17 years of law enforcement experience, having served in multiple specialized roles including Motor Officer, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, and Special Events Liaison. As a certified Motor Officer and Radar/Lidar operator, he is well-equipped to address the city’s most common traffic violations, including speeding, distracted driving, and unsafe passing.

“Ojai’s unique blend of rural charm and active community events presents both opportunities and challenges for traffic enforcement,” said Captain Steve Jenkins, Chief of Police for Ojai. “Deputy Burnett’s experience and leadership will be a tremendous asset as we work to make our roads safer for everyone.”

As Motor Officer, Deputy Burnett will focus on high-visibility traffic enforcement and educational outreach. His patrols will target violations such as:

  • Speeding: Reducing crashes and saving lives
  • Distracted Driving: Keeping eyes and minds on the road
  • Unsafe Passing: Preventing head-on collisions
  • DUI Enforcement: Promoting sober driving choices
  • Crosswalk Safety and Signal Compliance: Protecting pedestrians and cyclists

Deputy Burnett’s leadership in coordinating large-scale events such as the Amgen Tour of California and city parades also aligns with Ojai’s active community calendar. His presence will ensure safe navigation for both residents and visitors during festivals, farmers’ markets, and other gatherings.

“I’m honored to serve Ojai in this role,” said Deputy Burnett. “I look forward to engaging with the community, listening to concerns, and working together to improve safety on our streets.”

Residents are encouraged to connect with Deputy Burnett and the Ojai Police Station with questions, concerns, or suggestions. A new traffic awareness video featuring Ojai’s Motorcycle Unit is also available via the QR code provided on local flyers.

Be a good neighbor — drive safer.
