Sonora, TX – The City of Sonora extends its deepest condolences to the Odessa Police Department and the family of Officer Bailey Martin, who tragically lost his life in last week’s flooding in Kerrville, Texas. Officer Martin served with honor and distinction, and his passing is a profound loss to the law enforcement community across the state.
The Odessa Police Department has confirmed Officer Martin’s death and announced that their Honor Guard has been posted in Travis County, where they were temporarily stationed in remembrance of Martin’s law enforcement service.
Today, Officer Martin will return home to Odessa. A law enforcement and first responder honor escort are accompanying him on the journey from Austin to Odessa, traveling along Interstate 10. The procession is expected to pass through Sonora between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
We are asking all Sonora residents to take a moment to pay their respects at the I-10 overpass at Exit 400. Local law enforcement officers and first responders will be present as a sign of solidarity, reverence, and support.
The City of Sonora also pauses to remember and honor all lives lost in last week’s devastating floods in Kerrville. Our thoughts and prayers are with every family impacted.
