The Union County Sheriff’s Office and Dakota Dunes CID would like to inform all residents that golf carts are not to be driven on Dakota Dunes Blvd or any 35 mph marked roadway.

Golf carts are allowed on roadways with a 25 mph speed limit or lower. According to South Dakota Codified Law 32-14-15 and subsections, golf carts may only operate on roadways with a posted speed limit of 25 mph or less, unless crossing roadways.

Crossing of Dakota Dunes Blvd is allowed from one side to the other. For example, the following crossings are allowed:

• Levee Trl to Bison Trl
• Meadows Blvd to Prairie Blvd
• West Pinehurst to East Pinehurst

Golf carts must come to a complete stop and yield to all traffic before crossing.

Please also see the attached Union County Ordinance Number 2025-002. This ordinance does not overstep state statue.

Currently, the CID is having a comprehensive traffic study across Dakota Dunes performed, including the exploration of safe golf cart access on Dakota Dunes Boulevard. Recommendations are expected to be provided in the next two months, and the CID will review and consider the recommendations.

Reminders:
2025 golf cart stickers are available at the Dakota Dunes CID. The cost is $35 cash or check (make payable to Union Co Treasurer). If you have not registered a golf cart before, you will need the year, make, serial number and color of the cart for registration.

Any person operating the golf cart must hold a valid driver's license or restricted permit. (Please no children). We have had complaints about children driving golf carts on public streets with nearly missed accidents. Drivers are not always paying attention, nor can they see golf carts at times. 

Also note, golf carts going to play golf at Two Rivers Golf Course using the trail system from Prairie Park to the Big Sioux Levee and the Big Sioux Levee for accessing the golf course please use caution while on the trail, slow down for pedestrians and travel at a safe speed.  Carts utilizing the trail for golf must be permitted.  No other motorized vehicles are allowed.
