On July 1, 2025, at approximately 10:37 a.m., the Fremont Police Department Communications Center received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a person had been shot in the area of Northport Loop W. Fremont PD Officers arrived on scene and located a person down with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began providing medical aid to the injured person until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and took over care. The injured person was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Fremont Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit responded to the scene to take over the investigation. The suspect, identified as Greg White (56 years old, out of Fremont), was detained on scene, interviewed by detectives and ultimately placed under arrest for Penal Code 187(a) – Murder.
Fremont PD detectives and officers obtained statements from fifteen witnesses, viewed surveillance video and body-worn camera footage of the incident and authored multiple search warrants for evidence. Crime scene investigators processed the scene and located a rifle and many rounds of ammunition inside White’s Recreational Vehicle (RV).
Through the course of the investigation, it was learned White and the subject had known each other for years. The two met on the morning of the shooting at White’s RV, during which time they became involved in a verbal altercation. White stated the subject, who he considered a friend, threatened him while holding a long, sharpened copper pipe. White told detectives the subject attempted to carjack him. White gave the subject several warnings to leave and shot the subject only after the subject advanced towards him with the pipe. After the shooting, White remained at the scene to speak with officers. The firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered from inside White’s RV.
White remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail. The case has been referred to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
