INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Barton Road / Oakwood Drive, Loma Linda
SUSPECT(S): Kevin Cruz Mejia, 18-year-old resident of San Bernardino
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at about 1:18 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Central Station responded to a single vehicle collision on Barton Road near the intersection of Oakwood Drive. When deputies arrived, they located Kevin Cruz Mejia, an 18-year-old resident of San Bernardino, trapped inside the vehicle and major collision damage to an Edison power line. The damage caused a large power outage within the southwest area of Loma Linda and a disruption in power at the Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Based on evidence collected at the scene, it was determined Cruz Mejia was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Loma Linda Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel coordinated the extraction of Cruz Mejia from the vehicle and rendered lifesaving medical care. Cruz Mejia was transported to an area hospital for his injuries. Westbound traffic on Barton Road from Campus was closed for an extended period of time for repairs.
