The Borough welcomes Forbidden Tropics (Afro-Peruvian Jazz)
for the first Parkstock 2025 concert,
Thursday July 17th, 6-8 pm, Donaldson Park
On Thursday July 17th the Borough of Highland Park will be pleased to welcome Forbidden Tropics our Parkstock 2025 summer concert series.
Forbidden Tropics is an Afro-Peruvian Jazz band from New Jersey. Their music blends Afro-Peruvian rhythms such as Festejo, Lando, Zamacueca, and Panalivio with sophisticated harmonic elements of Jazz. In 2022, they released their latest album "Peruvian Rhapsody", and it's available on all streaming platforms. Since then, they have played at many venues in New Jersey including the New Jersey Jazz Society, the New Brunswick Jazz Project, the Red Bank Jazz Arts Project, and William Paterson University. They also headlined the Middlesex County Jazz Festival back in 2023.
The current band members are Alejandro Ataucusi (guitar), Robbie Sko (keyboard), James Nascimento (bass), Robin Estela (cajon, cajita, and donkey jaw bone), and Mike Dick (drums).
Parkstock is a project of the Borough of Highland Park, NJ and is supported in part by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
