INCIDENT TYPE: Racing/ Reckless Driving Operation

DETAILS: On the evening of July 10, 2025,Members of the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Squad, School Liaison Unit, Motorcycle Unit and the Amarillo Regional Crime Center conducted a Racing/ Reckless Driving Operation at high accident locations as well as Thompson and John Stiff Parks. Officers used marked Patrol vehicles, unmarked units and assets of the ARCC to target these locations. The operation yielded 49 traffic contacts, 27 traffic citations issued, 2 arrests with 6 warrants served as well as other proactive criminal/ gang enforcement. More of these operations are being planned to reduce the number of fatalities on our roadways. So far this year there have been 5 incidents where racing has caused collisions. Also, the Department has investigated 10 fatal crashes this year with speed being a contributing factor in 7 of those.
