Police pursuit ends in arrest

On July 14, 2025, at approximately 1:53 a.m., a Simi Valley Police Department officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop near the intersection of Waldo Avenue and Trinway Avenue. The driver failed to yield, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

The suspect vehicle entered the eastbound lanes of State Route 118 (SR-118) via the Sycamore Drive on-ramp. While on the freeway, an occupant of the vehicle threw multiple lit fireworks out of a window in the direction of a pursuing patrol unit. No injuries or damage were reported.

The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle became disabled near the Rinaldi Street overpass, where a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) was successfully utilized to bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver fled on foot into a nearby residential neighborhood. The passenger also attempted to flee but was quickly taken into custody.

A containment perimeter was established, and a coordinated search was conducted using police K-9 teams and unmanned aerial systems. Despite extensive efforts, the driver was not located.

The passenger, identified as Bryan Hernandez from Downey, CA was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including:

  • Resisting or obstructing a peace officer

  • Possession of burglary tools

  • Conspiracy to commit a crime

  • Possession of a controlled substance

  • Throwing a dangerous object with intent to cause injury
