Burlington County Blue Envelope Program
The Maple Shade Police Department is proud to participate in the Burlington County Blue Envelope Program, an initiative designed to foster safer and more comfortable interactions between police officers and motorists with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The program aims to reduce stress during traffic stops by improving communication and understanding. It provides a simple and effective way for drivers with special needs to notify officers of their condition. Participants are instructed to keep their driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance inside a clearly marked blue envelope, which should be handed to the officer during a stop.
All Maple Shade officers have been trained on the goals of the program, including recognizing communication barriers and providing accommodations as needed. Each envelope also includes space for emergency contact information, allowing officers to reach a family member or caregiver.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in the Blue Envelope Program, you can obtain a blue envelope from Maple Shade Police Records between the hours of 8AM-4PM.
