Traffic Stop Leads to Felon's Arrest for Possession of Firearms

INCIDENT: Felon in Possession of a Firearm
LOCATION: Hesperia Road / Bear Valley Road, Hesperia
SUSPECT: Corey Sampson, 44-year-old male from Hesperia
SUMMARY: On Sunday, July 13, 2025, at about 4:10 p.m., Deputy Joseph Mora with the Victor Valley Transit Detail patrolled the Victor Valley Transit Authority bus routes. Mora stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and contacted Corey Sampson, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who was a convicted felon.
During a search of the vehicle, Mora located a simi-automatic, 9mm handgun within reach of Sampson while he drove. The handgun had a loaded magazine inserted and was fully operational. Mora found evidence that Sampson had additional firearms at his residence in Hesperia.
A search warrant was authorized and served at Sampson’s residence. The search resulted in the recovery of three additional firearms, including two pistols, an AR-15 style rifle, high-capacity magazines, and ammunition. Sampson was arrested for multiple violations, including felon in possession of a firearm, and booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
