Illegal Marijuana Grow Search Warrant in Hacienda Heights
Today, the Industry Station County Special Assignment Team (SAO) executed a search warrant in Hacienda Heights, targeting an illegal marijuana grow operation. Southern California Edison estimates that the residence was consuming approximately $18,000 worth of electricity per month, leading to an estimated $500,000 in utilities over several years, all acquired by illegally bypassing the panel and meter. During this operation, deputies seized marijuana with an estimated street value of over $3 million.
Hilda L. Solis, Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of law enforcement, stating, "I want to express my deepest gratitude to the deputies from the City of Industry Station, particularly those assigned to the Unincorporated Area Task Force. This specialized task force, which I have proudly supported with $525K in funding for this fiscal year, has played a vital role in addressing quality-of-life concerns across Hacienda Heights and other unincorporated areas in the First District. Their investigative work today, done in collaboration with Southern California Edison to monitor unusual spikes in energy usage, was instrumental in identifying and dismantling this illegal operation. Thanks to the coordinated efforts between our Sheriff’s Department and regional partners, the site has been shut down and a comprehensive investigation is now underway."
The presence of representatives from Hilda Solis's office and Southern California Edison highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing these critical issues. This proactive effort not only demonstrates our deputies' unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community but also significantly mitigates the hazards associated with illegal operations. The theft of electricity poses a serious risk to the community, increasing the likelihood of fire hazards and endangering the lives of residents and first responders. Furthermore, illegal grow operations can contribute to environmental degradation and foster an atmosphere of crime.
"Today’s operation sends a clear message that criminal activity will not be tolerated in Los Angeles County," said Captain Glenn Emery of the Sheriff’s Industry Station. "Our communities deserve to live free from the dangers and risks associated with illegal marijuana grow operations. I commend the collaborative efforts of Southern California Edison and the Office of Supervisor Hilda Solis for their continued support in protecting public safety."
We greatly appreciate the hard work that went into this successful operation. Great job to all involved in keeping our community safe!
