Suspects arrested for assault with a deadly weapon
LOCATION: 1400 Block of Ebener Street, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: July 15, 2025, at 5:25 P.M.
On July 15, 2025, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Redwood City Police Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Ebener Street after receiving reports that four to five subjects were assaulting another male in the parking lot, possibly stabbing him.
Officers who were in the immediate area quickly arrived on scene. As they approached, they observed the suspect van leaving the area while bystanders pointed to it as the vehicle involved. Officers followed the van as it continued eastbound on Woodside Road. A short vehicle pursuit was initiated as the driver of the van failed to yield to officers’ emergency lights and sirens.
The van turned onto Hudson Street and collided with a parked vehicle approximately half a mile from the original scene. The driver, later identified as 47-year-old Manuel Chavarria, fled on foot but was captured a short distance away. The front passenger, 36-year-old Gerardo Conrriquez, was uncooperative, refusing multiple commands to exit the vehicle. Officers utilized a police K9, who bit the suspect on his arm. Officers were then able to get him into custody.
A third suspect is believed to have exited the van before officers arrived and was not located.
The victim, a 20-year-old male, was located but uncooperative with officers. The victim was not injured during the incident. Surveillance footage obtained from the apartment complex showed Chavarria and Conrriquez exiting the van and chasing the victim while armed with what appeared to be long sharp objects.
Both Chavarria and Conrriquez, along with the van, were positively identified during an in-field show-up by multiple witnesses on scene.
Chavarria was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, evading a police officer, conspiracy to commit a crime, resisting arrest, vehicle hit and run and parole violation. Conrriquez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime, resisting arrest and parole violation.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information about this case is encouraged to contact Detective Bellotti at (650) 780-7116.
