David was arrested last month alongside suspect James Vanderleest, 21, Green Bay, who was officially charged on July 16, 2025, in connection with the death of Leo Escalante. The child was transported to a local hospital on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from a residence in the 100 block of Alpine Drive with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to another facility outside the area for further treatment but succumbed to his injuries on June 23, 2025, and was pronounced deceased.
The case remains an active investigation. No additional details will be released at this time.

UPDATE: Second Suspect Charged in Suspicious Child Death; David Vanderleest, 48, Green Bay
The second Green Bay man arrested in Florence County on June 27, 2025, with an alleged connection to the suspicious death of a two-year-old Green Bay boy has been charged.
The Brown County District Attorney’s Office charged the following suspect on July 17, 2025:

- Harboring or Aiding a Felon
- Obstructing an Officer
