Deputies Respond to a Call after Suspect Sets His House on Fire in Landers
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 4:42 p.m.
INCIDENT: Arson
LOCATION: 300 block of Bowman Trail, Landers
SUSPECT(S): Randall Fechtig, 60-year-old male resident of Landers
VICTIM(S): Deputy Sheriff, State of California
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 4:42 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in Landers for a fire. The reporting party advised Randall Fechtig set his house on fire. It was reported Fechtig was in possession of a firearm and was threatening people. Deputies arrived on scene, saw the residence was on fire and heard possible gunshots coming from inside the residence.
Fechtig eventually exited the burning residence unarmed and was taken into custody. He was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of the burns he received from the fire.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Bombs/Arson Detail responded to process the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Fechtig's possession of a firearm or shooting at the time was not substantiated.
Fechtig is being held at the West Valley Detention Center for arson, in lieu of $80,000 bail.
