Suspect Arrested in Connection with Series of Downtown Vandalism Cases

Between July 12 and July 13, 2025, Redwood City Police Officers responded to multiple reports of vandalism from businesses in the downtown area. Business owners reported damage to their windows, and several provided surveillance footage showing a suspect carving the letter “R” into the glass. The marking was later determined to be the initial of the suspect’s name.

On July 17, 2025, at approximately 12:05 p.m., officers were flagged down by one of the victims, who pointed out the suspect in the downtown area. Officers contacted the individual, later identified as Roman Leoncontreras, and conducted a follow-up investigation. Surveillance footage collected from the affected businesses helped link Leoncontreras to the vandalism. In total, 14 businesses in downtown Redwood City sustained damage consistent with the suspect’s actions.

Leoncontreras was arrested at the scene. In addition to the vandalism charges, he was found to have an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody without incident.

The Redwood City Police Department thanks the business community for promptly reporting the incidents and providing valuable video evidence that led to the suspect’s swift identification and arrest.

Leoncontreras was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on multiple charges of felony vandalism and the outstanding warrant.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Sergeant Figueroa at (650) 780-7621.
