Man Who Carjacked a Delivery Truck Leads Deputies on a Pursuit before being Apprehended and Arrested

DATE/TIME: July 21, 2025, at approximately 12:32 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 215(A) - Carjacking, PC 487(A)-Grand Theft Property, CVC10851(A)-Vehicle Theft, CVC2800.2(A)- Evading Police/Disregard Safety

LOCATION: 800 Block of Front Street, Needles, CA

SUSPECT(S): Nicholas Loefler, 37 Years Old, Resident of Parker, AZ

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: On Monday, July 21, 2025, at approximately 12:32 p.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station / Needles Police Department responded to a reported carjacking of a FedEx Penske delivery Van near the 800 block of Front Street.  The victim, a FedEx driver, stated he was confronted by a white male adult while making a delivery.  The suspect took the vehicle by force and fled the scene eastbound on Broadway Street.  The victim was not injured as a result of the carjacking.

Shortly after the carjacking, the stolen vehicle was spotted on Hwy 62, near Rio Mesa, prompting a pursuit by San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies.  Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified and later joined the pursuit.  Agencies involved in the pursuit consisted of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, La Paz County Sheriff's Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Parker Police Department.  Spike strips were deployed and the vehicle was successfully disabled near Hwy 62 and Nez Rd in La Paz County, around 2:30 p.m. The driver was taken into custody without incident. A positive identification was made of the suspect, Nicholas Loefler, and he was arrested on the above-mentioned charges.  Loefler was transported to the High Desert Detention Center for booking and remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with a bail amount of $90,000.00, awaiting a court hearing. 

All packages from the stolen FedEx van were recovered and are expected to be delivered to their intended recipients in the Needles area within the next 2-3 days.
