NEWS RELEASE: CyberTip Leads to Arrest of Modesto Youth Soccer Coach for Child Pornography Possession
On Monday morning, detectives arrested 33-year-old Matthew Paez, a Turlock resident, following an investigation sparked by a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Detective Giovacchini traced the uploaded material to an internet-based platform and identified Paez as the individual responsible.
Detectives contacted Paez at a home in the 400 block of Meandering Lane and took him into custody. Several electronic devices were also located at the residence and are now undergoing forensic analysis for additional evidence.
Paez has been booked on two felony charges: possession of child pornography and distribution of obscene material involving a minor. Additional charges may be filed pending the results of the digital evidence review.
At the time of his arrest, Paez was a coach for a Modesto-based youth travel soccer team. The organization was notified immediately following the arrest. At this time, investigators have found no evidence indicating that any players or local children were directly affected; however, the investigation remains ongoing to ensure that no potential victims are overlooked.
“This is a difficult but important reminder that child exploitation can happen in any community,” said Detective Giovacchini. “We will continue to act on every credible tip and use every tool available to protect children and hold offenders accountable.”
