Guilty Plea in Murder Case Involving Anthony Dewayne Dunn

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Keon Trashone Mathis, a 26-year-old resident, entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder in connection with the death of 40-year-old Anthony Dewayne Dunn. This tragic incident occurred on September 18, 2024, at The Larsson Apartments, situated at 2200 W. 7th Street.
During the altercation, Mr. Dunn was shot multiple times, resulting in his untimely death. Following the incident, law enforcement officials swiftly initiated a manhunt for Mr. Mathis, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest later that evening. In a coordinated effort, he was apprehended in Childress, Texas, during the early morning hours of September 19, 2024.
In the proceedings held at the 108th District Court, Mr. Mathis accepted a plea deal, resulting in a sentence of 40 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division. This resolution underscores the commitment of the legal system to address violent crime and seek justice for victims and their families.
