On July 23, 2025, the Homicide Unit of the Amarillo Police Department (APD), in conjunction with the Potter County District Attorney's Office, presented a significant case to the Potter County Grand Jury. After careful consideration of the evidence, the Grand Jury rendered a decision of "no bill" regarding Mr. John Duggan. This verdict indicates that no formal charges will be filed against him in connection with the case presented.
 
The Grand Jury's proceedings are a crucial component of the judicial process, allowing for an impartial review of the evidence to determine whether there is sufficient basis to pursue criminal charges. The decision made by the Grand Jury reflects their assessment of the facts and circumstances surrounding the case.

DETAILS:  On Sunday, March 9th, at around 2:30 pm, Amarillo Police officers were called to a residence in the 300 Blk of N. Carolina on a medical call. When officers arrived, they learned there had been a fight between two individuals and one died at the scene: Michael Mayfield, male, age 43. The APD Homicide Unit was called, and this incident is still under investigation. Next of kin of deceased has been notified.
