SCAM ALERT: FAKE DMV TEXT MESSAGES
We've been made aware of a fraudulent text message scam circulating in our area. The message claims to be from the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and uses urgent language such as:
"FINAL NOTICE OF ENFORCEMENT — Our records show you have an outstanding traffic ticket. Failure to pay will result in license suspension, prosecution, and damage to your credit score."
THIS IS A SCAM. Do not click any links or respond to the message.
Important Facts:
• The DMV will NEVER contact you by text regarding payments or enforcement actions.
• Law enforcement will NEVER contact you by text demanding payment or threatening arrest.
• These messages are designed to scare you into giving up personal or financial information.
If you receive one of these texts:
• Do not click any links
• Do not send any payment or provide personal information
• You can also report scams to the FTC at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov
