Murder suspect Jorge Ortega was taken into custody moments ago. SHERIFF LEVON ALLEN

On July 26, 2025, the City of College Park Police Department responded to a person stabbed call on the 1800 block of Southampton Rd in College Park, Ga.
Upon arriving on the scene, officers observed the victim lying in the grass bleeding from a single stab wound to the chest.
The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Detectives of College Park Police Department identified Jorge Ortega as the suspect.
Jorge Ortega was charged with the following:
Murder with Malice.
Upon the receipt of these warrants, SHERIFF LEVON ALLEN activated his "Elite Fugitive Unit" to locate and apprehend Mr. Ortega.
Clayton’s Fugitive Unit tracked Ortega to Gwinnett County. Sheriff Allen immediately made contact with Sheriff Taylor. The Gwinnett Police Department and Gwinnett Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit met at a briefing location and came up with a plan for all 3 agencies to work together to safely take Ortega into custody.
On July 26, 2025, at approximately 8:30 pm, Jorge Ortega was taken into custody in the first 8 hours. Ortega is being held in the Clayton County Jail where he awaits his day in court.
