UPDATE - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - NJ Declares State of Emergency Due to Today’s Anticipated Thunderstorms and Flash Flooding

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., reports that due to today’s anticipated rainfall and thunderstorms, many streets may be flooded and drivers should avoid them.
Director Miranda further advises that Acting Governor Tahesha Way declared that New Jersey will enter a State of Emergency effective at 2 p.m., due to the potential for flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, intense rainfall, and damaging wind gusts.
Rainfall totals of 1-3 inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of 5-7 inches possible. These extreme weather conditions can result in flooded roadways. Drivers should avoid the listed locations due to the potential for flooding.
The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding conditions, and other weather-related incidents through the combined use of Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management Personnel. Special attention should be given to unsecured outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse, and building materials. For fire safety, please utilize flashlights instead of candles, should you lose electricity due to this weather event. #newarknj #publicsafety #police #community #partnership #firefighter #traffic #flooding #stateofemergency #newjersey
