DPR Hosts "The World’s Largest Swim Lesson" to Promote Water Safety and Drowning Prevention for Youth
Friday, August 1 at 5:00 PM, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will join a global movement to combat childhood drowning by hosting The World’s Largest Swim Lesson at 30 pool locations across the District. This free event is open to children ages 6 to 12 and will provide basic swim instruction and water safety education — an essential skill that can save lives.
“Every child in D.C. deserves the opportunity to feel safe, confident, and strong in the water,” said DPR Director Thennie Freeman. “The World’s Largest Swim Lesson is not just a summer event — it’s a citywide commitment to water safety and equity.”
