West Covina Man Arrested for Felony Vandalism After Tire-Slashing Spree

Date of Release: Friday, August 1, 2025

West Covina, CA – A 32-year-old West Covina resident, William Berni, was arrested on July 30 in connection with a string of vandalism incidents involving slashed tires reported just two days earlier.

On July 28, the West Covina Police Department responded to 16 separate reports of vandalism in the 1800 block of W. Yarnell Street and a nearby apartment complex. Officers quickly began investigating the damage, reviewing surveillance footage and collecting physical evidence.

Thanks to tips from witnesses and collaborative efforts by patrol officers and detectives, Berni was identified as the suspect. A victim later spotted Berni walking near his home and alerted police. Berni was arrested without incident and booked at the West Covina Jail on a charge of felony vandalism (Penal Code 594(b)(1) PC).

The motive and the object used in the incidents remain under investigation.

Police want to emphasize the importance of residents and law enforcement working collaboratively to solve crime and keep the community safe. Anyone with further information is urged to contact Detective Salas at (626) 939-8598 or leave an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers or the department’s official website.
