Burglary Attempt at Corte Madera Mall Ends in Arrests and Gun Seizures

Corte Madera, CA — August 1, 2025

Just after midnight on Friday, Central Marin Police officers responded to an active burglary attempt at a business in the 1800 block of Redwood Highway in Corte Madera. A vigilant security guard had observed two individuals attempting to break the glass windows and doors of a retail store and promptly notified law enforcement.

Officers arrived within minutes and located an unoccupied gray sedan running in the fire lane near the business. With assistance from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, containment was established around the shopping center to prevent the suspects from fleeing.

Two Central Marin Police officers searching the area encountered two men near the targeted business. Both were wearing hoods, masks, and sunglasses. When officers ordered them to stop, one suspect attempted to push past and flee. Officers detained both individuals. Surveillance footage confirmed they were the same individuals seen attempting to break into the store and associated with the waiting “getaway” vehicle.

The suspects were identified as Clarence Stimpson, 37, of Hayward, and a 15-year-old male from Fremont. Both were arrested for attempted burglary.

During the investigation, officers determined the suspects’ vehicle had been stolen. Inside, they located a loaded, unregistered semi-automatic handgun with two large capacity magazines. A secondary search revealed a second loaded semi-automatic handgun concealed in the vehicle’s sunroof compartment.

Stimpson, a convicted felon on active probation for prior firearms charges, was booked into the Marin County Jail on charges including:

  • Attempted burglary

  • Conspiracy

  • Felon in possession of a firearm

  • Prohibited person in possession of ammunition

  • Carrying a loaded firearm in public and in a vehicle

  • Resisting arrest

  • Possession of large-capacity magazines

  • Possession of a stolen vehicle

The juvenile was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted burglary, conspiracy, and wearing a mask in the commission of a crime.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. Central Marin Police patrol officers and detectives are continuing to investigate the vehicle and suspects in connection with additional crimes that may have been committed within our jurisdiction.
