On August 2, 2025, at approximately 5:34 PM, Officers from the Janesville Police Department were originally dispatched to 21 Dodge Street in response to an armed subject with a knife. While Officers were responding, dispatch advised there was a male victim stabbed. The suspect was still on scene.
Officers arrived at the scene and observed an individual, described to have been armed with the knife, run south on River Street and took them into custody without incident. The male victim was located with injuries consistent to being stabbed. Evidence was located at the scene and witnesses were interviewed. The suspect and victim were transported to Mercy Health and Trauma – Janesville to be treated for injuries.
The suspect was identified as Richard M. Mercadel. Richard will be held at the Rock County Jail for charges from this incident.
