Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on August  2, 2025, at approximately 1415 hours, Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash at the intersection of Marcellus Hwy and Lawrence Rd, Volinia Twp, Cass County, Michigan.
 
The investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Kaden Smith (18-year-old of Osceola, IN) was traveling northbound on Lawrence Rd., and failed to stop at the stop sign and continued north into the intersection. A vehicle driven by Johnnie Kirby (35-year-old of Decatur, MI) was traveling eastbound on Marcellus highway, and struck the vehicle driven by Smith. Smith was transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained from the crash. 

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Seat belts were worn.
 
Assisting agencies were Wayne Township Fire, Michigan State Police and SMCAS Ambulance.
 
The incident remains under investigation.
