SAN MATEO PD PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, “AMERICA’S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME” ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 5th.

SMPD to visit 27 registered block events on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, between 6-9pm to foster our police-community relationships. We will also be hosting our FREE public event at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center from 5:30-7:30pm and invite the public to attend.

San Mateo, CA – On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the San Mateo Police Department is participating in the 42nd Annual National Night Out (NNO) from 5:30-9 p.m. On this evening across the nation, police and the community get together to 1) heighten crime prevention awareness; 2) generate support for and participate in local anticrime efforts; 3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and 4) send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

We will be hosting our FREE NNO Safety Fair at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center at 725 Monte Diablo Ave. from 5:30-7:30pm. Those who aren’t attending their own block events can join us there to meet McGruff the Crime Dog and our other K9’s, mingle with police officers, firefighters, city staff, and our public safety partners, check out public safety vehicles (SWAT trucks, Fire, Ambulance vehicles included), watch how we deploy our drones, enjoy goodies provided by the San Mateo Police Activities League, play games with Parks and Recreation, check out our library’s book mobile, climb on a backhoe, and gather resource information from numerous tablers (see complete list below), all while having some fun; working together to keep our neighborhoods safe. You may even win a raffle prize!

We know the importance of being present in our neighborhoods and will simultaneously be visiting 27 registered neighborhood block events between 6-9pm. We’ll be sending a police representative to visit each block and encourage the registration of security cameras while providing safety tips and resource information.

Joining us this year will be members of our city organization to include members of San Mateo City Council, Department Heads, our Public Works crews, San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, our Police Activities League, Target, national NNO sponsor AT&T, and the list goes on.

National Night Out is a great way for our Neighborhood Watch Program to highlight itself.
