Kidnapping and Carjacking Suspects Arrested After Multi-Agency Pursuit
On Sunday, August 3rd, the Healdsburg Police Department reported a kidnapping and carjacking involving a male victim who was forced at gunpoint to drive his vehicle by two suspects.
A Petaluma Police Department K9 Unit officer spotted the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 101 near the Pepper Road off-ramp. Officers initiated a high-risk traffic stop just south of Kastania Road. The vehicle initially pulled over but quickly fled, with the male victim still driving under the suspects’ direction.
The pursuit continued southbound on Highway 101 and was taken over by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in San Rafael. CHP continued the pursuit through the City of San Rafael and back onto northbound Highway 101. Eventually, the vehicle exited at St. Vincent Drive, where the two suspects fled on foot.
After initially resisting arrest by CHP and San Rafael PD, both suspects—identified as Amina Vaden, 24, of Oakland, and Davina Humphrey, 51, of Oakland—were detained by San Rafael Police Department and CHP officers. One of the suspects’ juvenile son was also found inside the vehicle. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Healdsburg PD responded to take custody of their suspects. Petaluma PD booked Vaden and Humphrey for felony evading and conspiracy.
Charges from incidents prior to the carjacking and added by Healdsburg PD included:
1. 209.5(A) PC: Kidnapping during the commission of carjacking
2. 207(A) PC: Kidnapping
3. 211 PC: Robbery
4. 273A(A) PC: Child Abuse
5. 368(B)(1) PC: Elder Abuse
6. 245(A)(2) PC: Assault with a firearm
7. 246.3(A) PC: Willful discharge of firearm
8. 24610 PC: Possession of undetectable firearm
9. 25850(A) PC: Carry loaded firearm in public
10. 182(A)(1) PC: Conspiracy
Both suspects are being held at the Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $1,020,000.
The coordinated efforts between Healdsburg PD, Petaluma PD, CHP, and San Rafael PD led to a safe resolution despite a very dangerous situation. This incident is another great example of the strong partnerships built between neighboring agencies and the commitment to providing safety for communities across multiple counties.
