REMINDER: NJDEP community meeting on RBDH urban amenities tonight
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will host a community meeting tonight, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. at Elysian Charter School, 1460 Garden St. to discuss updates to the Rebuild by Design – Hudson River (RBDH) project's design elements, including proposed urban amenities, focusing on the resist structure in northern Hoboken.
The RBDH project is a comprehensive flood protection system designed to safeguard portions of Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken against storm surge flooding. During Hurricane Sandy, this type of flooding inundated Hoboken with over 500 million gallons of water, causing more than $100 million in private property damage. The project aims to integrate flood-resistant infrastructure with new community amenities, helping to both protect and enhance the urban environment.
In southern Hoboken, the Resist flood barrier will take the form of wayfinding signage, planters, seating, mural space, and more. In northern Hoboken, the structure will also take the form of Harborside Park, which is anticipated to be completed in 2027.
