Unfounded calls to Law Enforcement reportedly involving firearms – No Threat to the Public!

Corte Madera, CA - August 6, 2025

Earlier today, officers from the Central Marin Police Authority responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance at the Cove school in Corte Madera.  The reporting party explained that an unknown person announced “someone may have a gun” over the schools’ handheld radios. At the time, the school was in session with summer camp and occupied by multiple students and school staff. Staff immediately placed the campus into lock down, conducted a roll call with all campus staff, and contacted law enforcement. Officers arrived on scene and conducted a thorough and complete search of the campus. Officers determined that none of the staff made the announcement nor did they ever see anyone on campus with a firearm. At no time was anyone on campus in any danger and the report is believed to be unfounded at this time.

A short time later, officers from the Central Marin Police Authority, The Mill Valley Police Department and The Marin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an active shooter at the Village shopping mall in Corte Madera. Officers arrived on scene and immediately entered the mall. Officers contacted the reporting party and quickly determined that this was a secondhand report from the previous call at the Cove school and NOT an active shooter incident at the shopping mall. Out of an abundance of caution, officers conducted a complete sweep of the mall and no evidence of a threat was located. We understand that such reports can cause significant alarm, and we want to reassure our community that public safety remains our highest priority. We want to thank members of the public and the multiple law enforcement and fire department personnel that responded to this incident.
