School Safety Reminders
School Safety Reminders
Summer break is almost over, with most kids returning to school on Wednesday, August 13.
With that in mind, the Bear Valley Police Department has some important safety reminders:
- When a school bus stops and flashes its red lights and/or extends a stop sign, traffic on both sides of the road must stop.
- Remain stopped until the flashing lights turn off and the stop sign (if equipped) has been retracted.
- When a school bus stops, it creates a large blind spot where kids may be crossing or entering the road. Be safe, be patient, and wait until the bus gives the all-clear by turning off its flashing lights.
- Be extra cautious when driving in the morning or afternoon. Watch for kids waiting at or walking to bus stops. Make sure you are emphasizing distraction-free driving (as always!).
- When entering or leaving Bear Valley, be aware of the 25 MPH school zone speed limit by Cummings Valley Elementary on Bear Valley Road.
- Talk to your kids about safety when walking to school bus stops. Remind them to watch for cars and be alert when crossing the street.
