Man Riding Bicycle Struck and Killed by Hit and Run Driver; Suspect Later Identified and Arrested

DATE/TIME: Monday, August 4, 2025 / 12:39 a.m.

INCIDENT: California Vehicle Code 20001(a) - Felony Hit-and-Run Collision

LOCATION: Redlands Boulevard west of Anderson Street, Loma Linda

SUSPECT(S): Marco Antonio Velardez, 50-year-old resident of Moreno Valley

VICTIM(S): Male Adult, 65-years-old, Transient


SUMMARY: On Monday, August 4, 2025, at approximately 12:39 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Central Station, were dispatched to the area of Redlands Boulevard west of Anderson Street, in the city of Loma Linda, for a report of a hit-and-run collision. Deputies located the male victim bleeding from the head after being struck by a passing vehicle as the victim rode his bicycle west on Redlands Boulevard. The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene. The Region I Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the location to process the collision scene.

The victim’s injuries were severe, and he was transported from the scene to Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) for treatment.  The victim later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives from Central Station identified the vehicle as a blue colored Ford sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Marco Antonio Velardez. Velardez was contacted at his residence in Moreno Valley where he was taken into custody without incident. Velardez was booked at Central Detention Center (CDC) for California Vehicle Code section 20001(a)(2), Hit-and-Run and Penal Code section 192(c)(2), Vehicular Manslaughter in lieu of $30,000.00 bail.
