The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2025:
4:55 AM Officer Swadener investigated a suspicious person reported near Cedar Blvd & Thornton Ave. A 22-year-old-male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for public intoxication.
12:00 PM Officers responded to multiple reports of residential burglaries involving suspicious individuals. These investigations are ongoing.
8:23 PM Officer Shaffer conducted a pedestrian stop near Cedar Blvd & Newark Ave. A 43-year-old-male was arrested for an outstanding warrant and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2025:
9:17 AM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau investigated two vehicle burglaries reported near Seawind Way & Hickory St. The door locks were forced open and loose change was reported taken from one vehicle.
11:04 AM CSO Lau investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Sycamore St & Graham Ave. A backpack containing electronics and personal items was taken from an unlocked vehicle.
2:21 PM CSO Lau responded to a theft reported near Sand Bar Pl & Enterprise Dr. Personal clothing, registration documents, and a garage door opener were reported taken from a vehicle.
4:53 PM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft reported near Balentine Dr & Newpark Mall Rd.
6:05 PM Officer Lara investigated a theft near Sycamore St & Graham Ave. Personal items were reported taken from a back yard porch.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2025:
12:28 AM Officer Norvell investigated a sexual battery report near Newark Blvd & Thornton Ave.
3:12 AM Officer Cervantes responded to a domestic violence incident reported near Ramsgate & Edgewater Drives.
8:42 AM Officer C. Torres investigated an online scam in which the victim electronically sent approximately $1500 to an unknown person claiming to be a reputable dog breeder. This investigation is ongoing.
8:42 AM CSO Lau investigated the theft of components from a motorized gate fence near Central Ave & Willow St.
2:48 PM Officer Quinonez investigated an assault reported near Cedar Blvd & Thornton Ave. A 26-year-old-male was arrested for criminal threats and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
3:39 PM CSO Mora investigated a catalytic converter theft reported near Dupont Ave & Darvon St.
4:33 PM Officer C. Torres investigated a window smash vehicle burglary reported near Mowry Ave & Cedar Blvd. Reported loss included a backpack containing identifying documents.
9:59 PM Officer Cervantes investigated the report of a bicycle theft near Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 2025:
1:16 AM Officer Williams initiated a traffic stop near Magnolia St & Graham Ave. A 26-year-old-male was arrested for possession of narcotics and violating the terms of his probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
9:02 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle theft reported on Joaquin Murieta Ave.
9:32 AM Officer Kapu conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle near Cherry St & Stevenson Blvd. A 35-year-old-male was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
10:11 AM Officer Piquette conducted a traffic stop near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards. A 21-year-old-male was cited for driving without proof of insurance and on a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle towed from the scene.
11:19 AM Officer Shaffer responded to a disturbance reported near Cedar Blvd & Mowry Ave. A 28-year-old-male was arrested for being under the influence, and possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
4:39 PM Officer C. Torres investigated a commercial burglary reported near Overlake Place & Jarvis Ave. A lock was discovered cut into and forced entry was gained.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 2025:
2:37 AM Officer Kim responded to a stolen vehicle alert near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards. The vehicle was recovered on scene.
5:58 AM Officers responded to reports of several vehicle burglaries near Magazine Dr & Newpark Mall Road. Reported losses included tools and keys.
10:05 AM Officer Shaffer conducted a pedestrian stop near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards. A 34-year-old-male was arrested for possession of narcotics and violation of probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
12:42 PM Officer Lor responded to a request for medical assistance on Edgewater Drive. A 58-year-old-male on scene was cited for an outstanding warrant.
12:53 PM Officer Lor responded to a disturbance reported near Cedar Blvd & Magazine Dr. A 35-year-old male was arrested for criminal threats and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:09 PM Officer Stevenson investigated a mailbox burglary reported near Enterprise Dr & Seawind Way.
9:07 PM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to a stolen vehicle alert near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave. The vehicle was recovered on scene.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 9, 2025:
12:17 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle theft reported on Newpark Mall Road.
1:00 AM Officer Losier initiated a security check near Cedar Blvd & Thornton Ave. A 39-year-old male and 22-year-old male were both arrested for public intoxication and were booked into Santa Rita Jail.
12:31 PM Officer S. Torres conducted a pedestrian stop near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards. A 38-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
5:35 PM CSO Vuong investigated a vehicle theft reported near Cherry St & Dairy Ave.
10:08 PM Officer Swadener responded to a disturbance reported near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave. A 23-year-old male was arrested for domestic violence, battery and resisting arrest. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 10, 2025:
9:32 AM Officer Lor was dispatched to a report of a canine bite near Cedar Blvd & Joaquin Murieta Ave.
10:46 AM Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle theft reported near Cedar Blvd & Joaquin Murieta Ave.
11:53 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a commercial burglary near Jarvis Ave & Haley St. The front door was forced open, and the cash register was tampered with.
