Mill Valley Police Department: Back-to-School Transportation Safety Reminder 
As students return to school in Mill Valley this week, the Mill Valley Police Department urges everyone on the road to stay alert and use extra caution near campuses.
“As our students return to class, we all share the responsibility to keep them safe. Whether you’re driving, walking, or biking, slow down, pay attention, and make safety your priority near schools.,” said Mill Valley Police Department Traffic Sergeant Puccetti.
Transportation Safety Tips
Bicycles
- Ride in the same direction as traffic and obey all signs.
- Use hand signals to indicate turns or stops.
- Walk your bike through intersections and crosswalks.
- Always lock your bike when unattended.
- Buckle up every time, no matter the distance.
- Ensure children are in the correct car seat or booster seat for their age, weight, and height.
- Use sidewalks whenever possible; if none are available, walk facing oncoming traffic.
- Look left-right-left before crossing the street.
- Cross only at marked crosswalks or intersections.
- Use only designated loading and unloading zones.
- Never double park or block bike lanes or crosswalks.
- Follow instructions from school staff and crossing guards.
- Follow all age requirements and local regulations.
- Helmets are required for all riders (E Bikes).
- Use bike lanes when available and ride at safe speeds near schools.
