Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on August 15, 2025 at approximately 1915 hours, Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 12 and Gumwood Rd., Milton Township, Cass County, Michigan. 

The investigation showed that a motorcycle driven by Richard Shults IV (22 yrs old of Niles, MI) failed to stop in time and rear-ended a vehicle being driven by Michael Bair (49 yrs old of Niles, MI). The vehicle being driven by Bair was attempting a left turn at the time of the crash. Michael Bair was transported by ambulance to Corwell Lakeland Niles Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.  Richard Shults IV was treated by EMS on scene.  
 

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash. Seat belts and a helmet were worn at the time of the crash.

Assisting agencies were SMCAS Ambulance, Niles Township Fire and Edwardsburg Fire.

The incident remains under investigation.
