Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD), with assistance from East Bay Regional Parks Fire and Contra Costa County Fire personnel, will be conducting a controlled burn this morning at the Painted Rock area near Moraga Road and Rheem Blvd. The project will create a 35-50' wide ridge-top fuel break along Fay Hill Road just east of Painted Rock. The "black line" along the ridge will provide firefighters with additional safe working space in the event of a wildfire. Prescribed fire will also encourage the growth of native grasses in the area.

MOFD is coordinating the project with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Residents in the area should consider closing exterior doors and windows between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM to prevent smoke from entering their homes.
