DATE/TIME: August 18, 2025, 3:02 a.m.
INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Pine Street and Third Avenue, Hesperia
INVOLVED PARTY (1): Hispanic Male Adult, Occupant of a Black Chevrolet Suburban
SUMMARY: On Monday, August 18, 2025, at about 3:02 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Hesperia Station conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Suburban for failing to stop at two stop signs near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Pine Street in the city of Hesperia. The driver of the vehicle yielded to the deputies’ emergency lights and pulled over to the shoulder. As the deputies exited their patrol vehicle, the driver accelerated away from the traffic stop and headed east on Pine Street at a high rate of speed. The initiating deputies pursued the fleeing vehicle. The driver failed to stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection of Pine Street and Third Avenue. When the Chevrolet entered the intersection of Third Avenue, it was struck by a black Ford F150 heading north on Third Avenue. The impact caused the driver of the Chevrolet to lose control and overturn several times. Several parked cars were hit, and one Hispanic male adult was ejected in the process of the Chevrolet overturning. After the Chevrolet came to rest on the roof, two Hispanic male adults exited the vehicle and fled on foot. An extensive search for the two subjects was conducted but they were unable to be located. The Hispanic adult male who was ejected from the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were minor injuries claimed by one of the occupants of the other involved vehicle.
The collision is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision or if the decedent was the driver of the Chevrolet. The identification of the decedent is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
