NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Investigators are assisting in an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an officer involved shooting that occurred in the city of South Gate. On Monday, August 18, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., an officer from the South Gate Police Department located a felony vehicle on Firestone Boulevard near San Carlos Avenue, in the city of South Gate. The vehicle, a 2022 Toyota Corolla, was wanted by the Huntington Beach Police Department for its involvement in an attempt murder which occurred earlier in the day in the city of Huntington Beach.
The vehicle turned into a driveway on the 8600 block of San Carlos Avenue where the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop, the female driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the officer at which point an officer involved shooting occurred.
The female was struck by gunfire. The female was treated on scene by officers and personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and subsequently transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead at 9:59 a.m.
The female has been identified as 29-year-old, Lucero San Pedro-Castro, of Baldwin Park.
No other person(s) were injured as result of the incident.
