Why the Water Looks Brown
Residents in Palmer, Bristol, and Ferris have all noticed the same thing: brown water. Here’s why:
Rockett Water, our regional supplier, has confirmed the discoloration is from elevated manganese levels. Manganese is a natural mineral, and when lakes “turn over” during seasonal changes, it can show up in the water supply.
The important part is the water has been tested by both Rockett Water and the City of Ferris, and it meets all safety standards. Rockett is continuing to test the water 10-15 times per week to ensure it is safe to use. If at any point the water did not meet safety standards, Rockett Water and the City of Ferris would immediately notify the public and take corrective action.
That said, we get it. It doesn’t look good. We know it’s frustrating, and we share that frustration.
We’ll continue to monitor and stay in close contact with Rockett Water as they work through this issue. Thanks for your patience as we ride this out together.
