Waldwick residents please take note of this upcoming project as it may affect your travel route through town.

On or about August 20, 2025, NJ Transit will be rehabilitating the Chestnut Street railroad crossing located in Allendale, near the Waldwick border. The project involves rehabilitation of the crossing resulting in a full closure of the roadway to thru traffic and pedestrians at all times, starting on or about Wednesday, August 20th and ending on or about Thursday, August 28th.

There will be a soft closure (signs and barricades) of Chestnut Street in Allendale @ Franklin Turnpike and a hard closure (heavy equipment) at the work site.

These closures will be in place 24/7 therefore:

- Allendale residents of Chestnut and Erold will only be able to access their homes from the Franklin Turnpike side of the closure.

- Residents of the Whitney complex in Allendale, as well as the commercial building at 165 Chestnut, will only be able to access their homes or business from the Waldwick side of the closure.

- Detours for thru traffic will be posted. Expect traffic delays during this project.

We understand that the roadway closure may be an inconvenience. Once this project is completed, we are confident that this much needed railroad crossing rehabilitation will be a benefit to all who travel through Chestnut Street.
