Narrative:

The Camarillo Police Department Investigations Bureau is alerting the public following a recent increase in thefts from unlocked vehicles and vehicle break-ins throughout the City of Camarillo.  Deputies have responded to multiple incidents involving theft from parked vehicles, many of which were left unlocked or had valuables in plain sight.

These crimes are often crimes of opportunity. Suspects are targeting easy-access vehicles, especially those with visible belongings inside. The Camarillo Police Department would like to remind all residents to take simple, effective steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.  Residents are urged to take the following precautions:
  • Always lock your vehicle, even if you're stepping away for just a moment.
  • Remove all valuables — including purses, wallets, electronics, and money — from the vehicle.
  • Do not leave spare keys or key fobs inside your car.
  • Park in well-lit areas and in view of security cameras.
  • Report suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1 or the Camarillo Police Department’s non-emergency line – (805) 654-9511

Community awareness and action are critical in preventing property crimes. Please share this message with neighbors, friends, and family. Together, we can reduce these incidents and keep Camarillo safe.
