Coastal Hazard Alert: High Surf, Winds, and Tidal Flooding Expected Wednesday, August 20 through Friday, August 22

Due to Hurricane Erin’s offshore impact, Asbury Park is expected to experience strong winds, high surf, and possible coastal flooding from Wednesday, August 20 through Friday, August 22. While heavy rain is not currently expected, astronomical high tides and strong onshore winds may lead to flooding along the beachfront and other low-lying coastal areas.

Residents living near lakes or in areas prone to flooding are advised to move vehicles to higher ground. Remember: Never drive through flooded roadways.

Remove valuable items from beach lockers by Tuesday evening, August 19.

Important Reminders:

  • Swim only when permitted and lifeguards are present, and never swim after hours when lifeguards are off duty.
  • Report downed power wires and outages to JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).
  • If you smell gas or suspect a leak, leave the area and call New Jersey Natural Gas at 1-800-427-5325.
  • To report non-emergency fallen tree limbs or branches, call the Asbury Park Police Department at 732-774-1300. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
