Felony DUI Arrest
7/31 – 1:20 p.m. – Police stopped a vehicle on West Laurel Street and Polk after it failed to signal. Upon investigating it was discovered the driver, who had a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI charge, was believed to be under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while suspended, and released pending charges from the state’s attorney’s office.
8/13 – 7:20 a.m.- Police stopped the same subject in the first block of West Oak Street after a lane violation and failure to signal. Upon investigating the subject was placed under arrest again for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while suspended. He was released pending charges.
On August 14th the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged the defendant, Edward J. Schlattweiler age 74 of Millstadt, with the following:
In reference to the incident on July 31st:
Count 1: Aggravated Driving Under the Influence – Alcohol (for having two previous DUI charges); A Class 2 Criminal Felony.
Count 2: Aggravated Driving Under the Influence – Alcohol (for driving while suspended due to a previous DUI); A Class 4 Criminal Felony.
Count 3: Driving While Suspended; A Class “A” Criminal Misdemeanor.
In reference to the incident on August 13th:
Count 1: Aggravated Driving Under the Influence – Alcohol (for having three previous DUI charges); A Class 2 Criminal Felony.
Count 2: Aggravated Driving Under the Influence – Alcohol (for driving while suspended due to a previous DUI); A Class 4 Criminal Felony.
Count 3: Driving While Suspended; A Class “A” Criminal Misdemeanor.
On August 15th the subject was taken into custody at the police station and transported to the St. Clair County Jail.
