Reminders Related to Traffic Safety Around School Zones
Petaluma, Calif. – Officers from the Petaluma Police Department have been patrolling local schools to conduct traffic enforcement and enhance safety. While completing patrols around the schools, many violations have been observed.
We would like to remind the motoring public that school zones have a speed limit of 25mph while children are present. Some schools have had the speed limits reduced and posted at 15mph when children are present. Please slow down, leave early and plan for traffic.
Parking Near Schools: Drivers are not allowed to park at red curbs, it is illegal. Red curbs indicate no stopping, standing or parking. Officers will be issuing parking citations for vehicles parked or stopped/standing in a red zone. Occupying the driver’s seat of a stopped vehicle in a red zone does not make the action legal. Red zones are marked due to safety hazards such as sight distances for other drivers or pedestrians.
The Petaluma Police Department appreciates everyone working together to ensure the safety of our community members. Thank you in advance for assisting us in keeping everyone safe.
