Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol reports that the beach is now open with lifeguards on the stands from 10:00am - 5:30pm today. There will be no swimming and bathers will only be allowed in the ocean up to knee deep water. Depending on conditions, Beach Patrol may open the surfing beaches later today. Public works and private crews are still operating in the beach to restore services and remove any remaining debris. Please be cautious around the work crews. The Wildwood Crest Police Department strongly urges everyone to follow lifeguard directions today. Hurricane Erin brought heavy tidal flooding in the back bay areas of town and the beach saw significant ocean rise. There were reports of some damage caused by flood waters and police assisted several stranded motorists in the overnight hours.
