NEWARK POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN STABBING

Newark, CA (Monday August 25, 2025)
On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at approximately 11:36 PM, Newark Police Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 5600 block of Thornton Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult victim who sustained multiple stab wounds and was suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a local trauma center where they were treated for their injuries and are now in stable condition.
Through diligent investigative work, Newark Police Detectives identified the suspect as Luis McLaughlin Jr., an 18-year-old male from Newark. While no connection has been established between the victim and Mclaughlin Jr., the investigation indicates the incident was motivated by a desire for notoriety.
On Sunday, August 24, 2025, the Newark Police Department’s SWAT Team served a search warrant in the 5000 block of Civic Terrace Avenue and safely took McLaughlin Jr. into custody. On Monday August 25, 2025, McLaughlin Jr. was formally charged by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office with one count of attempted murder.
