INCIDENT: PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon, PC 422 – Criminal Threats
LOCATION: 15000 Block of Valley Boulevard, Fontana
VICTIM: Confidential
SUSPECT: Jose Cervantes Cortez, 29- year-old Hispanic Male, Transient of Fontana
SUMMARY: On Monday, August 25, 2025, deputies from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station responded to the Best Value Recycling Center, located in the 15000 block of Valley Boulevard, regarding a male waving an approximate 3-foot-long machete. The male struck the ground multiple times in a threatening manner.
When deputies arrived, they encountered Jose Cervantes Cortez, who refused to drop the machete after several orders were given. Subsequent de-escalation efforts by Deputies A. Bandari, A. Valdez, and S. Valencia were successful, and Cervantes Cortez dropped the machete. Cervantes Cortez was detained and upon investigation, it was determined he threatened and swung the machete towards the victim.
Cervantes Cortez was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
